The Yankees are already down one of their two prized starting pitching prospects from the Opening Day roster after sending Phil Hughes to the disabled list. That increases the importance upon Ian Kennedy's fifth start of the season as the Yankees look to scratch back to the .500 mark on Thursday.

Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique. The team made the announcement during Wednesday's game against the Tigers. Hughes, the youngest pitcher in the Major Leagues at 21, took a pounding in the Yankees' 6-4 loss to the Tigers at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

The bruised and battered Yankees sent out a lineup without Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada on Wednesday, something they'll have to get used to for at least the next two weeks. As New York's disabled list continues to swell, they can only hope to have other players step it up in the games following an uninspired 6-2 loss to the Tigers at Yankee Stadium.

A 33-year-old veteran catcher, Chad Moeller returned to the Yankees under a strange set of circumstances, passing through waivers before briefly becoming a free agent before the Yankees signed him to a Major League contract on Wednesday. With Jorge Posada currently on the disabled list, Moeller is an important piece.

While Alex Rodriguez will miss at least 15 games after being placed on the disabled list on Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps, the team believes he may be back as quickly as two weeks. The disabled list assignment is Rodriguez's first as a Yankee and his first since 2000 with the Mariners.

Explains Rob Pegoraro (washingtonpost.com) Time Capsule “combines a fast 802.11n WiFi router and a massive external hard drive in an enclosure no bigger than a regular AirPort Extreme router.” Working in conjunction with Time Machine, it “allows you to back up every Mac in the home over your home network.” And, notes Pegoraro, since he began using it, “its primary trait has been a near-complete lack of drama.”
