Sunday's game results, seven innings of shutout ball from Chien-Ming Wang in a 1-0 win, suited the Yankees just fine. Watching catcher Jorge Posada strip off his uniform, knowing he won't be back for 15 days at the earliest and probably longer, was much harder to swallow.

In a rematch of Game 1 of last year's American League Division Series, Chien-Ming Wang outdueled defending AL Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia, hurling seven scoreless innings as the Yankees edged the Indians, 1-0, snapping New York's three-game losing streak.

On a day when the Yankees should have been able to enjoy a first-rate pitchers' duel that went in their direction, they instead found out that catcher Jorge Posada, while he still was close to indispensable, was no longer indestructible.

One day after the Yankees were rather secretive with Chamberlain's availability, instead using Kyle Farnsworth and Ross Ohlendorf in the late innings of a 4-3 loss to the Indians, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that the 22-year-old right-hander would be ready to go in a similar situation if needed Sunday.

The Yankees have lost their first two games at Progressive Field, but it's through no fault of Johnny Damon. He stroked four hits on Saturday, including two doubles, and has four multi-hit games in his last six contests. But gaudy numbers are of little use to the leadoff hitter if they don't translate to runs.

The Yankees' emphasis on player development, as opposed to player purchase, and the resulting reliance on young pitchers, is the intelligent long-term approach for this organization to take. At the moment, it's just not producing a flood of victories.
