Giambi turns to superstition to bust outPosted by: Betty in MLB, tags: NSCocoa Nescukua Apple cocoa carbon deaf developm
The ultimate "go figure" moment of Jason Giambi's season came in the fourth inning on Saturday, when the Yankees first baseman dug in against Johan Santana and ripped a line drive about as hard as you can back up the middle. Yogi Berra, left, on stage with Danny Devito and Bruce Springsteen. (Joe Brescia)
Yogi Berra thinks Albert Einstein “is a pretty smart guy.”
But in Berra’s world, that might not count for much because, “I don’t know if he would be a good manager.”
Berra was talking about Einstein, a fellow inductee at the recent New Jersey Hall [...]

The Watch ListPosted by: Betty in MLB, tags: NSCocoa Nescukua Apple cocoa carbon deaf developm
When Kenji Johjima was hitting below .200 last month, the Mariners gave him a three-year, $24 million contract extension. Johjima, a soon-to-be 32-year-old catcher, is showing signs they did not make a mistake. Johjima has raised his batting average 50 points this month and had four extra-base hits, including his first homer, in three games [...]

A Win-Win DealPosted by: Betty in MLB, tags: NSCocoa Nescukua Apple cocoa carbon deaf developm
In the classic baseball film “Bull Durham,” Annie Savoy (played by Susan Sarandon) memorably said, “Bad trades are part of baseball — now who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for God’s sake?”
While bad trades are a favorite topic among fans, less attention is paid to the trades that work out well for both [...]

While the Yankees aren't ready to budge from their original plan for Joba Chamberlain yet, manager Joe Girardi cracked open a sliver of possibility on Saturday that the hard-throwing right-hander may remain in relief for the rest of the 2008 season, given the club's needs.

Location, location, location.
It turns out that the motto of real estate agents across the country can also be applied to promising young left-handers who have hit a rough patch in their career.
Cliff Lee, the Indians’ 29-year-old starting pitcher who won 18 games in 2005, reached a [...]
